HEALTH GUIDE

Calculate BMI from consistent height and weight units.

The BMI calculator divides weight in kilograms by height in meters squared and displays the result to one decimal place.

Inputs and units

Enter height in centimeters and weight in kilograms. If your measurements use feet, inches, or pounds, convert them carefully before using this version of the calculator. Using measurements taken at different times can make the result less useful for comparison.

The equation

BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height (m)2

Verified example

A height of 175 cm is 1.75 m. With a weight of 70 kg, the calculation is 70 ÷ (1.75 × 1.75) = 22.857…, which the tool displays as 22.9.

How this tool labels the result

The calculator labels values below 18.5 as “Below range,” 18.5 to below 25 as “Healthy range,” 25 to below 30 as “Above range,” and 30 or higher as “High range.” These labels describe the tool’s built-in ranges; they are not a diagnosis.

Important limits

BMI is a screening measure based only on height and weight. It does not measure body composition, fitness, pregnancy status, age-related changes, medical history, or individual health risk. Do not use it to diagnose a condition or replace advice from a qualified health professional. If a result concerns you, discuss it with an appropriate clinician.

If the result looks wrong: check that height is entered in centimeters, not meters, and that weight is entered in kilograms, not pounds.
